In the spirit of a (welcome, and overdue!) resurgence of nostalgia for the old, decentralised web, where many of us bashed out our own personal homepages and filled them with whimsical, social stuff not only intended to make us look good for prospective clients or employers, I've built myself a this little guestbook.
Don't expect instant updates, new messages will be moderated, and added when I next deploy my site :)
Privacy Policy
I do not track you, I do not run analytics, I do not set cookies.
I do write to session storage, so that you don't get surprised when your chosen high contrast or dark/light modes turn on or off as you navigate around the site. This disappears the moment you close the tab, or browse away.
The only data I receive from you, is that which you freely give me through the email or guestbook forms.
Because doing contact forms properly is surprisingly complicated, these are powered by Netlify Forms, which sends the input through Akismet spam filtering. Should you want a copy or would like me to delete anything you sent me, I will happily oblige - contact me in whichever way you prefer to ask for this.
Alternatively, you can directly email me if you add contact@ to the beginning of the domain of this website :)
I enjoyed your recent article about trying harder when things are already hard. I also feel like just treading water is enough sometimes. I've been trying better to have some unstimulated down time on a daily basis but it's hard to fit in with all this insanity.
Came through blogroll.org. Love the design of the site
(I was going to email saying "The button disappears when you fill in the form)", but then actually went back and read the Subject and yeah... too early. Need more coffee)
you have a really cute website !! i was confused at first what to do but im just happy to be here now :D i found u through my indieweb rabbithole
hope u have a great day !!!
Maria
OMG I loove the way your website is build, so incredibly cute. I havr no Idea how I ended up here but it was cool, have a mice day!
I love the website! I've been insecure about my style of web development, but I love yours and somehow helps me feel better about creating my own pages. I actually adore the Navigation, and I love hover effects so this was fun to navigate!
I gaze upon an intricate mosaic of shapes and contours. Bulbous béziers of floral form. Hearts and the figure of dynamic-monism.
Built of divs and pseudos. The DOM manifested as art. Responsive to my visual delights and adaptive to my preferences.
Reaching out a cursor to touch them, they engorge and gain definition. A slender outline grows around them and grips them tight.
I tear my eyes away to thumb through the tabs of the folders in which I find myself.
Your site has been such an inspiration in building mine, thank you so much! I love the tabs at the top like a filing system and how you can change the theme.
Sara! I stumbled down a nostalgic web rabbit hole and somehow landed on your Mastodon, recognised your face, and thought I'd say hello! 👋🏻 How lovely to visit your space on the web :) I hope you don't mind!

I like your tab scrolling effect. And yay guestbooks, feels like 1999.
taking my first strides into real web dev (I've dabbled a bit for my personal site, but largely borrowed for that) and your site is such an inspiration!
Hi Sara, what a wonderful site you have, so many little treasures to find and play with. Very inspiring indeed and I'm looking forward to future posts.
Hi Sara. Great page! I especially like your twist on Week Notes with Weak Notes. It's been serving as an inspiration. My week notes tend to be pretty weak at times. Hah. -JC
Hello from south africa! Love your blog and your website itself, the menu tabs and the color mode cycler are my fav features.

Badly needed some indieweb mojo today. Love the Gen X Baz Luhrman throwback, and can't remember the last time i signed a guestbook (pre 9/11 perhaps?)! Glad the global mega tech corps that rule us haven't taken over all of our souls ❤️
Hey Sara, just found your blog. Love the content and the look and feel. Discovered the cool CSS Joy and added it to the list of resources on the ‘Blog Inspiration’ page on my blog. Happy blogging! 🤩
I was so pumped to find this site! It honestly has the slickest implementation of color/contrast/day-nite toggles I've ever seen… super inspiring.
All the best.
Hello Sara from another Sara in Aalborg, Denmark.
I like your site, it reminds me of gentler times when the Internet was all about connection.
Have a lovely day!

Jolly good stuff. I particularly like the little tab things. Reminds me of my old Rolodex.
Carry on!

Greetings from Oregon! Just wanted to say how much I enjoy your content: Your friendly vibe and genuine enthusiasm is such a wonderful complement to what is clearly a deep devotion to the craft of web design and development. Have a wonderful day!
Hey, it’s starshaped from Mastodon! It has probably been about 20 years since I signed a guestbook so here I am, saying hello while I eat dinner and catch up on Mastodon :D I don’t remember what I used to post in guestbooks back in the day, but hi! Hope you had a good day!
Hello from Springfield, Oregon, home of The Simpsons - and also a lot of famous runners for some reason! I enjoy guest books, I'd like to figure out how to get one on my website (currently hosted by micro.blog so might not be possible, we'll see). Your site is really fun! :)
Hello from Ohio!
Sara, I have really enjoyed following you on Mastodon and our interactions there. Your Weak Notes are inspiring me on ways to write more. First, for myself and then sharing it on the Open Web.
Cheers!
Hey! Do you know the history of SPAM?
Spam has a unique history of rising to fame. From the warzones to now being a sought-after item in grocery stores, Spam has set a distinguished trend in meat selling.
Spam was first created in the year 1937, during the Great Depression, in Austin, Minnesota. The creator, Jay Hormel of Hormel Foods, initiated the idea of selling Spam locally, targeting average families.
The actor Ken Daigneau named the canned meat in a contest and labeled it SPAM, an acronym for 'Spiced Ham.' He won $100 as a reward.
The Second World War leveraged the popularity of Spam for its easy storage and long shelf-life. This cheap meat became a necessity with the destruction of agriculture and a shortage of food products.
In 1941, more than 100 million pounds of Spam were shipped to the allied troops. It was consumed with great enthusiasm, especially on the Pacific front.
My recurring thought is that if we can lower the barrier to folks making their own sites then more folks will spend more time being creative and will be less angry as a result
Your site is an amazing inspiration of what can be done
simply great work
Lovely to see a guestbook! Hello from London, UK. I may also need to borrow your concept of "weaknotes", since my blogging and newsletter habits have fallen into such disuse.
Absolutely love your website!
It's a real joy to browse and read, pun ~not~ intended! Reading about how you've built the various bits and pieces (the sticky navigation in particular is so slick!) has been super enlightening, and I’m looking forward to seeing the next Weak Note pop up in my RSS Reader—what a great concept! :D I might have to try something like them myself.
All the best, and long live the guestbook!
Really enjoying the site design. Have only explored on my phone but the scrolling through sections that “attach” to the top is a nice touch, and performance is smooth! Not always easy with scroll stuff.
Hi! Just found your site via a boost on Mastodon (https://front-end.social/@sarajw/110310963430439304)! Love the cool, creative vibe here! Just subscribed to your RSS, looking forward to reading more from you in the future!
Love the site and the "now" page. You're an inspiration to care about the pretty things and make the things I work on slightly less than horribly ugly. Thanks for making the web a nicer place.

Thank you for helping me brainstorm guestbook related ideas. If I end up with a guestbook on my site is because of to the conversation with you.
Keep being awesome.
It's great to see another front-end developer having fun and doing awesome things on the web! You're one of my favorite people to follow on Mastodon, too. I love the section of tech logos on your site, and the word "Scwerpunkt." 🙂
Yikes, I might've sent you an e-mail instead of signed your guestbook? Regardless, love that you revived the guestbook concept - it's so nostalgic to me. I also appreciated the honest reflections on how you became a developer. We need more of that on the web. Keep doing awesome stuff!
I have been sleeping since 1999 when back then I would leave my glowing messages across many a guestbook on a then young web. Today I've woken up to a glorious renaissance of a time that makes me glow strong and puts a smile on my chubby cheeks - thank you for having a guest book.
I now leave you in search of more guestbooks to leave my mark as I continue to crawl around the web.
With love,
- The Web Glowworm
omg what a site! the CSS art! the sticky tab layout! wonderful, @sarajw — thanks for adding your site [to personalsit.es].

Dear Sara, we met only recently on Mastodon thanks to the kerfuffles of a certain billionaire. Happy we did, I really enjoy what you write and create. Case in point: this very guestbook here – how cool is that <3 <3 <3 Here's to keeping the spirit of the web alive and well!
Jake
Cool, a guestbook! This is rad. Takes me back. I'm old enough to remember everyone using them in the 90s on their personal sites. Why'd we stop? Love it. 😀
